Let's be honest, there aren't many restaurant options in Los Alamos. While visiting friends who live in the area, my husband and I discovered this little spot for lunch. It was super busy, with a line almost out the door. We figured we'd try it out and then stop next door for a Starbucks. They have a great variety of options from bagels to sandwiches to wraps. I went with the four cheese grilled panini and was not very impressed. The onions were surprisingly sweet and it made for an odd combination with the tomatoes and cheese. It wasn't bad, but if I had the opportunity to go back I would choose something else. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised by the amount of vegetarian options though...especially for a small town. I also appreciated the fact that the sandwich prices included a side of chips. It's annoying to pay extra for something like that. The only other little thing I noticed is that during their rush hour it seemed as if they didn't have enough staff to get out to wipe tables off. There were several tables open, but they were all covered in leftover food...not too appetizing. All in all, not a bad options for a quick, decent lunch.

Ruby K is a nice spunky change of pace for an otherwise pretty serious little government-built town. The service is really friendly and uncomplicated, the decor is new-agey and cute. It's a nice place to go to if you need to unwind a bit. I tried their apple turnovers, which are quite delicious (the filling could be a little less goopy, but their mille feuille is excellent). Their bagels are, well, over-yeasted and underbaked, but I've had far worse. As they say, Ruby K's, best bagel in Los Alamos...Ruby K's only bagel in Los Alamos! Frankly, the place can be a bit pricey for what you get; $13.50 for a sandwich and a smoothie may as well be New York prices. Still, it's a very centrally located cute little locally owned place, so that counts for a lot in my book. One note: they close a 4pm daily, so you're well-served to grab your coffee and desert early in the day.

Pretty good selection and food. Clean atmosphere and nice staff. A little pricey for a bagel place. Parking is shared with other businesses, but parking has never been a problem for us.

Great locally owned business. Owner is often there keeping an eye on the staff. Great , fresh, imaginative sandwiches, salads, smoothies and bagels. Located near all the sights downtown. If there is a problem, the staff will fix it right away, just ask!

First time lunch here today- got a 4 cheese panini to go. $7.50 + tip=$9 Service was great, the woman behind the counter was very nice and efficient and the woman who ultimately delivered my sandwich also was smiling and wishing me a good day. It only took 5 minutes for my order to come up (at around 11am, so not a very busy time of day). Sandwich was good, warm and melty. It was on an oregano foccacia bread, which was a little thick for a panini IMO, but the flavor was spot on (carmelized onions and tomatoes added for flavor). I'd definitely come back here again, they had an interesting looking Lox bagel sandwich that I'd like to check out.

Very disappointing my ham sandwich had 6 slices with the bone pieces on the sandwich. Luckily I felt the bone shard so no dental damage. I returned the sandwich to the counter the girl said "sorry about that" and walked away. I would not recommend this place.

YUM! I was in Los Alamos for work for over 10 days and frequented Ruby's several times. The fresh bagels and cream cheese in the morning, the sandwiches for lunch, desserts and their great choices for fresh smoothies kept me and my coworkers coming back for more. Another great discovery on my food odyssey in Los Alamos...don't laugh I was pleasantly surprised at most of the food I was able to sample in my stay in the mountains.

Mediocre bagels.. kinda pricey for what it is.. bagels are nothing like one gets in New York State... OK coffee. Very friendly and efficient service.. I ate here several times during my 4 year sentence to the local Gulag-labor camp across the canyon there in Lost Alamos, simply because there are virtually no other options around breakfast time and I am very reluctant to support the neighboring business, a certain expensive Seattle based coffee chain, if I can avoid it..

We ran here after church, but it was too crowded to sit and eat. So I split up with my husband, he went to starbuck's to get coffee, and I got bagels. Lines were about 15 min each, but we made it out at the same time and walked over to the park to have our "brunch". Bagels were great! LOVE the honey walnut low fat cream cheese. they also had cute local art there. The current display was impressionist pet paintings. quirky and cute. I'd go back, but maybe not during the after church rush.

Dear Ruby K, Why does a simple turkey sandwich cost $8? Yes, it was tasty, and I like the addition of bagel chips (good recycling plan, too!). But it was a plain turkey cheese lettuce and tomato. That is, at most, a $6 sandwich. Lucky for you, Los Alamos sports little competition, and prices are generally inflated here. Also, the bagel with egg, pepper, cheddar, and green chili is freaking rad. I will come back for that. Nothing else though. I'll make my own darn sandwich. PS, I know it's not your fault, what with Starbucks having strange coffee contract regulations that stifle competitors, but the fact that you can't sell iced coffees sucks. It's hot here. Thanks, Jessica

This place is busy on the weekdays for lunch. Lots of kids from the nearby high school come here for lunch along with the workers from the National Lab and Medical Center down the street. In summary, the sandwiches are clean tasting, but can be pricey for what you're getting. Orders: 1) Ruby K Classic Sandwich ($10): turkey, ham and roast beef on sourdough with lettuce, tomatoes and a chipotle sauce, decent sized portion if you get the whole sandwich 2) Green Chilli Stew ($4): small amount when served in the cup, tastey and goes well with the sandwich 3) Roast beef with Cheddar ($9): disappointing, very little meat and all bread, literally its 4 slices of roast beef, a slice of cheddar cheese, and some red-onion slices with mayonaise. 4) Fruit Smoothies: Two-to-tango and the Strawberry with Coconut (both are very tastey, but are made from juice and ice - no actual fresh fruit used)

Menu reminds of an Einstein's but in a small town. Overall, the bagels and baked goods are fresh and tasty. The staff is great. So definitely recommend if you want a bagel or bagel sandwich in Los Alamos.

Wow what a great place. The food is tasty and portions are large. We happened in as tourists and Ruby took us under her wing and pointed us to where to go and what to do. What a wonderful person to be so accommodating to strangers.

The good: The bagels are great (Edit: ok, I'm from New Mexico. If you're from somewhere with real bagels, you'll disagree with me. Sorry?). The service is frequently good, and that's in a town which has crap service in general. A lot of the sandwiches and lunchy stuff are good. The bad: For anything other than a bagel, they're pricey. The whole town is, but still. Their coffee is mediocre even though they seem to pride themselves on it. The ugly: Their slogan. "Bagels so yummy, you have to eat the hole thing"? Ow! It's not amazing food, but it's a decent breakfast for a reasonable price, and they're nice and fast. Expect it to be busy (and thus slower) during the lunch rush.

Pretty good sandwiches but a bit expensive. They used to have a good selection of soups but that has really gone downhill lately,

With limited choice in Los Alamos, this is a great breakfast and lunch spot, and the only place for bagels. Located right next to a starbucks (if that's your thing), Ruby K's is a great little locally owned restaurant. Local art or photography on the walls and all you can drink drinks (soda and coffee). I like the sunrise with sausage (ask for it with a tomato slice too) and a pastrami for lunch. Yummm.

Ruby K's is a little deli style bagel stop. The menu offers a nice variety, and the service is quick. The only drawback is the it is very pricey for a bagel. A much, much better green chili/ cheese bagel is available at Smith's for 59 cents.

I'm specifically reviewing their bagels/breakfast items and service here, not the sandwiches or lunch menu, since I've never tried it (and can't eat most of it, as I'm vegetarian). Los Alamos doesn't have many breakfast options, so this is pretty much it. I think the bagels are good, especially the plain and cinnamon crunch (personal favorite) bagels with their honey almond cream cheese. The bagels are soft, fluffy and thick, which is how I like them. Most of the bagels are pretty awesome, though I've had a couple that aren't as good as the rest. The bagel prices are reasonable, though lunch items look a little overpriced. One of the things that stands out here, in contrast to most other joints in town, is that the service is actually good and the people are nice. They usually throw in some free muffins and such when I get bagels!

Food poisoning! When we walked in (myself and two co-workers from out of town) we were pleasantly surprised. There were a lot of menu options, a good atmosphere, and nice looking cafe. Our food was prepared quickly and tasted great. Unfortunately, kitchen cleanliness and responsible food preparation outweigh how nice a place seems. I got horrible food poisoning later that night, as did one of my coworkers. We are sure it was this restaurant because it was the only meal we shared in common. The 3rd coworker also wasn't feeling well later, but not as bad off as us. We all had different meals. Based on that, I wouldn't be surprised if dozens more people had food poisoning from eating there at the time we did.

I've been here three times for lunch and I absolutely love it. Their Italian Wedding soup is amazing, their sandwiches are great, and their staff is always friendly and patient. I always look forward to coming to Los Alamos for work just to have lunch here. While it is a bit pricey, I think it's worth the quality and service you receive.

What a cute little place, and cupcakes coming soon! I went here just for dessert and got the apple turnover thingy. My colleague got the cinnamon roll and it was tasty as well. I ate lunch right before somewhere else, and I found myself wishing I'd tried a sandwich here instead. Be warned visitors of Los Alamos this place closes at 3:00. Los Alamos is a sleepy little town, but Ruby K's was a pop of fun and quirk.
